How To Stop Your Divorce And Restart Your Marriage

How to stop your divorce and restart your marriage

Once upon a time, your marriage was a wonderful, loving partnership, but years of bickering and arguing have torn you apart. You are devastated by the loss of love and intimacy you once had, and is seems like nothing can save this marriage now… The good news is, you CAN get the help you need to stop your divorce.  In fact, the most common reasons for divorce—arguing, jealousy, poor communication, and intimacy problems—are all marriage problems that can be solved by learning marriage skills. These are powerful skills you can learn and practice—with or without your spouse—that will stop your divorce in its tracks and save your marriage.

Dr. Susan Heitler, the founder of PO2, has counseled hundreds of couples away from the brink of divorce and guided them to a happy, thriving marriage. Dr. Heitler recommends the 3 L’s to all struggling couples. These are her top three areas to focus on if you want to stop your divorce.

1. LISTEN.

You are two different people, and because of this are bound to have differences. And that’s ok! At the same time, to prevent arguments, don’t immediately discredit your spouse’s point of view when it differs from yours. Listen to your spouse’s concerns and take his or her complaints seriously. By getting to the bottom of each of your underlying concerns, you can reach more satisfying solutions instead of butting heads over what is the right way to do something.

2. LOVE.

A positive and loving attitude is essential to a healthy marriage. You can stop your divorce by making a concerted effort to foster and grow love. Share thoughts and concerns, come clean about mistakes, and appreciate each other. Also, radiate positive energy by helping your spouse out, showing small tokens of affection, being playful, and giving each other open, joyful sexual attention. The more loving energy you give out, the more that your spouse--and others--will want to be around you.

3. LEARN.

Knowing how to communicate in a relationship doesn’t come naturally. Many marriages suffer because couple’s do not realize that they can learn how to have a better relationship. At the same time, this takes dedication and perseverance.  Learning how to stop your divorce won’t happen overnight. So keep at it! Look for helpful marriage books and counseling services with proven results, and then set firm and easily achieved goals to reach every day.
