What is this about?

The hardest part of a curing a but habit is catching yourself using the word. This activity will help you tune your ear to both your buts and those of folks around you.

Tips for Completing the Activity

Try keeping your card out whenever you're on the phone. This is a particularly non-intrusive time to record the buts.

Listen for buts in your favorite sitcom or radio talk-show. Eavesdrop while grabbing a sandwich. The couple sitting next to you will never know you're using them to practice!

Reflection Questions

  • Who in your life uses the most buts?
  • When are you particularly likely to let a but slip out?
  • How many buts do people who you particularly enjoy talking to use?
